Using the most efficient methods, Atrius allows you to borrow hard drive space any time you need it – even for very large files. This translates to inexpensive Network Area Storage on demand. You may want to skip to the iSCSI for “Dummies” part now. Most people don’t care how the technology actually works, just that it’s some combination of faster, better and cheaper.
iSCSI for Geeks
Internet SCSI (iSCSI) is an emerging standard that defines the encapsulation of SCSI packets in TCP and then routing it using IP. This protocol is a method by which large amounts of information move across a network efficiently. An analogy would be how the FTP protocol allows more efficient upload of files through the Internet. Wikipedia has in-depth information at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iscsi
iSCSI for "Dummies"
To simplify, customers in the Atrius Network, using iSCSI technology can virtually eliminate the physical boundaries of their local storage network. If you are somewhere on our network, in either a Smart Building, or BroadNet location, you can move and store big chunks of data. For example, your whole server back-up file, video files, or CAD drawings. Big stuff.
Because of the speed of the connection and this particular method, these large blocks of data can be seamlessly transported over our private network to and from the Atrius Network Operation Center in Norfolk Virginia. So it will seem like you have an extra server up the hall, not across town. Better yet, you would only pay for it if and when you actually need it.
