There are content management tools – and there are content management tools.

For most companies, the Web Developer is an out-sourced vendor like Atrius technologies and does not write the content for the pages. They simply put it up in a format that is Web ready. 

This is at odds with the all too common misconception that when a web site is developed the process is turnkey.  To a Business owner not familiar with the process the result can be disappointing and frustrating.

With a content manager, the Business Owner can access the parts of the site that they want to update and publish them directly to the Web site.  The downside is that you have to hire or be a competent marketing copywriter.  The upside is the time and aggravation you save will be worth a mint.

In the wide range of content management tools available, there are free tools that are included with some web hosting accounts. Generally, these are very limited, manual, and hard to customize. On the other end of the scale are Enterprise Level content management systems that may cost hundreds of thousand of dollars.  Atrius Technologies falls somewhere in the middle in terms of functionality, but on the low end of the scale in actual costs.
